Benefits of a Meditative and Therapeutic Pracitce of Yoga

Dear Reader,

Meditation and Meditative Yoga helps to lower stress hormones, reduce anxiety and depression, boost cognitive functioning, and enhance emotional regulation. Therapeutic Yoga reduces pain, increase strength and flexibility, improve sleep, and more. Blending meditation and therapeutic yoga is even better for our whole being. But what does Meditative Therapeutic Yoga look like?

The meditative aspect comes from your focus on breath, smaller movements, and the inclusion of mantra. Your attention, anchored on sensation, brings your mind into the present moment. Permission is granted to explore options, go deeper, or back off, which allows for your agency within the class.

The therapeutic aspect is your focus on the your ability to bring desired change to your body, mind, and spirit through the practice of yoga. There is an emphasis on alignment and longer holds of poses. This increased time in each posture allows for the undulation of your breath and the transformative quality of the movement.

Layered on top of the practice is connection. Moments of discussion and checking in prior to the session allows for classes to be collaborative rather than prescriptive. Yoga works best when your needs and intentions are woven through the practice.
